| ● With elements like rocks, insects, shells and hollows; Dalí expresses complex feelings toward his mother, who was very devoted to him. The rock with hollows, is the central element of another painting of Dali, “Oedipus Complex” (1930). The proximity and location of a human shape in relation to the rock helps to explain the title and the symbolism used by the painter. Notice also, in the bottom left of the picture, a hug between Salvador and his father. In relation to the lion head, Freud wrote that the presence of a wild animal represents sexual urges that a person is afraid of letting go. | ● Con elementos tales como piedras, insectos, conchas marinas y huecos, Dalí expresa sus complejos sentimientos hacia su madre, con la cual había estado muy ligado. La roca con huecos, es el elemento central de otra pintura de Dalí: “El complejo de Edipo” (1930). La cercanía y la ubicación de una figura humana en relación a la roca, ayudan a explican el título y el simbolismo utilizado por el pintor. Nótese también, en la parte inferior izquierda del cuadro, un abrazo entre Salvador y su padre.
